Blogmas- Day 2 | Understanding Freelance Operations

A part of what I do as a professional is operations. What that entails really depends on the industry; however, within my role, I have been able to focus on event planning and management, financial planning and management, while building, implementing, and sustaining systems for organizational structures, and monitoring and supporting with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for my specific industry.

I have been focused on Operations within an educational and event context for a while, but the skillset and exposure that I have can translate into other fields or industries. When someone decides to go into a freelance, they truly mean they are going to take their talents and systems into areas that they thrive in either the part-time or full-time capacity.

What title is associated with individuals that choose to do freelance operations? There are plenty: virtual assistant, online business manager, operations consultant, personal assistant, etc… The titles vary and what individuals choose to focus on vary as well.

My advice to any one looking to move into freelance operations: choose your avenues. Don’t try to do everything, especially if you know you are not strong in that area and have no desire to develop it.

If you’re looking for someone to support your business in a contract capacity, know the support in which you need. Do know that people are going to thrive in areas that work with their skillset. Have the conversation before choosing someone to work with your business needs.
