Blogmas- Day 8 | Why Personal Style Matters

Every person’s worse nightmare is missing your 6 AM wake -up alarm, traffic is at a standstill on every major highway, your trusty blazer has old food stains on it while you’re missing the left shoe to your most reliable work flats. Thinking you can pull together a quick outfit, you’re faced with too-little, unflattering, or oversized clothing, making you add minutes to your already late commute.

Since the pandemic, my personal wardrobe has resulted in the never ending workout legging, cute Nike and Adidas sweatpants, maybe 1 pair of jeans and a insurmountable collection of t-shirts. Even in the first few months back into school buildings, my classes were so small that, we all were extrememly lax in the dress code we had, as long as we still adhered to non profane or voilent graphics and messaging and inappropriate pieces.

Slowly, but surely, trips to Old Navy, and Marshalls resulted in a more business casual wardrobe; however, even with the remnants of the pre-pandemic wardrobe, personal style has always been a struggle for me, especially now post-baby and in the beginning of marriage.

I have memories of certain outfits receiving compliments; however, when people asked me to describe my style: I never had words. Now I don’t think that categorizing yourself is important, but I do see that understanding what items make you comfortable, chic and cute simultaneously is valuable, especially during seasons of transitions.

So I am currently on a journey of finding my personal style. My dream is to work with a stylist that also does color analysis and to redo my wardrobe that best encompasses how I like to feel in different settings, including work, special events, and my kids activities. I do have a few in mind, more specifically Shaquanna Chappelle (@shaquannachappelle) and Morgan Wider (@morganwiderstyle), that I want to work with.

I know this journey will be worth it, so I’ll be sure to keep you all update on my current progress!
