New Year. First Conference Presentation

Instead of a vision board for 2024, I made a Quarterly Bingo Card that pushes me to complete certain tasks or challenges. There are also nice prizes attached to this Bingo Card (courtesy of my husband’s thinking), and some of these spots really pushed me out my own comfort zone.

One challenge on my bingo card was presenting at a conference, and last month, I was able to present at the South Atlanta ACT Conference in Clemson, SC. This is big because 1) it’s ACT — the same organization responsible for an exam we all stressed over at some point 2) I had to submit this presentation and get chosen out of hundreds of people. Someone I know sad that their word for 2024 was audacious and my audacity in 2023 paid off and I was able to present in front of K-12 and higher education professionals on a topic that means alot to me.

I’m very proud of myself because it is not often that with my professional roles that I can step back into a teaching space. Here’s a few tips that helped me feel comfortable and prepared!

  1. Decide on three MAJOR points you want people to leave with

  2. Make an outline for your presentation. This will help you be detailed but concise

  3. Brag on yourself. You know what you’re talking about.

  4. Use that good APA research.

  5. Dress in a way that makes YOU comfortable.

  6. Use notecards if need be.

  7. Don’t read off the slide.

  8. Make it engaging for the audience. It keeps their attention.
